INSTITUTE OF AIKIDO (IoA) SUMMER SCHOOL 2024
BOOKING INFORMATION

30th Annual Summer School at Oatridge College, Ecclesmachan, EH52 6NH
Sat 3rd August to Fri 9th August 2024
Sensei William Timms 6th Dan IoA and other Instructors

A great opportunity for everyone from total beginners to senior Dan grades to improve and develop their Aikido, Summer School is usually considered to be the equivalent of 3 months of normal training. The mix of Aikido and social activities create an incredible experience and many people attend every year.

Facilities:This year we have been able to get ensuite rooms, plus the use of common rooms, but the food is only on offer on a pay as you go basis. Unfortunately, the regular chef is away that week and although a temp chef has been organised we have been asked to sort ourselves out for 3 of the evenings. Following discussion with Sensei Linn Robertson, the suggestion is that everyone chips in to buy some food which can be left in the common room fridges so you may make our own breakfasts and lunches. On Friday evening, there is a buffet or takeaway (details TBC) - bring your own refreshment. We have use of the common room for evening festivities. You will have to supply your own refreshments as there is no bar facility.

Training: Aikido classes start on the Saturday afternoon - timings to be confirmed. All other practice times will be advised on the day of arrival. There are free afternoons on Monday and Wednesday. All IoA members are expected to attend the AGM and grading on the Friday afternoon.

There will be an early morning practice from Monday to Friday inclusive from 07.00 to 08.00 which is open to all Kyu and Dan grades.  Any IoA Dan or 1st Kyu grade (subject to having an appropriate BAB Coaching Award/Insurance) applying to attending Summer School may be expected to teach these or other sessions and everyone will be expected to contribute to the smooth running of the Summer School by assisting with a variety of other duties. All attendees should bring their bokken and jo.

AGM and Dan Grading: It is planned to hold the AGM on the 9th August 2024 at approximately 13.30, followed by Dan Gradings. The Agenda will be circulated in due course.

Insurance: Anyone attending who does not hold a BAB Insurance certificate or certified insurance by their organisation will be charged £7 to cover them while attending the course.

T-shirts/Polo Shirts: Unfortunately, there will be no Summer School T-Shirts or polo shirts this year.

Registration/Arrival/Departure: You will be able to gain access to your rooms from 11.00 on 3rd August.  If you arrive during the Saturday practice session (14.00-16.30) you will need to wait till after the session to gain access to your room. All residents must vacate their rooms by 09.00 on the 10th August.

Refunds: No refunds will be payable. The Summer School organisers reserve the right to substitute instructors, change venues and make any other changes to the event they deem necessary without refund, and to cancel the event altogether, in which case full refund will be given of fees paid without any liability for any other costs incurred.

Miscellaneous: You should not contact the College yourself under any circumstances. If you have any questions, please email Sensei Timms tcs@wizz.email or Sensei Robertson linnrobertson@aol.com
